Description
Ther-Biotic Infant Formula by Klaire Labs is a multi-species probiotic formula that was specifically designed to meet the special needs of infants.
When choosing a probiotic formula for your infant‚ it is recommended to find something that is hypoallergenic – and this formula from Klaire Labs delivers. Ther-Biotic Infant Formula contains a high-potency blend of 5 Bifidobacterium species and 5 Lactobacilus species that were specifically chosen to meet the needs of infants and babies up to two years of age. Each Lactobacillus species in this infant formula produces mostly L(+)-lactic acid‚ which is a type of lactic acid that has been shown to be safely metabolized by infants.
The gastrointestinal tracts of infants are not fully mature‚ so they cannot metabolize the D(-) isomer of lactic acid that is produced by other species of lactobacilli. Klaire Labs understands the delicate nature of an infant’s gastrointestinal tract. That’s why each species in Ther-Biotic Infant formula was selected based on the best available studies documenting their safety and importance to an infant’s normal gastrointestinal and immune systems.
The gastrointestinal flora of an infant can easily be disrupted by cesarean section delivery‚ antibiotics‚ formula feedings and a poor maternal diet that lacks fresh vegetables and fruit.
Ther-Biotic Infant Formula comes in a high-potency powder that deliveres 10+ billion CFUs per ¼ teaspoon. It can be mixed with breast milk‚ infant formula or solid food (when appropriate).
Lactobacillus Species
- L. rhamnosus promotes healthy bifidobacteria diversity in infants while increasing colonic populations of B. breve. L. rhamnosus is crucial to the normal development of an infant’s immune system.
- L. casei is needed to differentiate immune dendritic cells while the infant’s immune system learns to distinguish between toxins and harmless antigens. This strain increases the number of intestinal cells that secrete IgA‚ and it also contains enzymes that help break down milk proteins‚ polypeptides and gluten.
- L. paracasei was included in this formulation because it produces high amounts of L(+)-lactic acid while antagonizing harmful pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus‚ rotavirus and Clostridium difficile.
- L. gasseri is found naturally in the human gut‚ and it is naturally present in human breast milk. This probiotic strain produces hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins inhibitory to Listeria‚ Clostridius and Enterococcus.
- L. salivarius colonizes the intestinal tract while enhancing calcium absorption. It also supports the normal function of the intestinal barrier.
Bifidobacterium Species
The species of bifidobacterium found in this formula are normally predominant in the gut microflora of an infant‚ constituting about 95 percent of the anaerobic bacteria found in the stool of healthy‚ breast-fed infants. Ther-Biotic Infant Formula by Klaire Labs contains bifidobacteria that ferment an array of oligosaccharides‚ including the ones found in breast milk‚ in order to generate crucial short-chain fatty acids‚ which are essential to healthy colonic function and maturation.
- B. breve antagonizes rotavirus and reduces the amount of anaerobic Bacteroides and Clostridium within the intestines.
- B. infantis is naturally found in infants. Its presence reduces the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis babies that were born prematurely.
- B. lactis supports healthy immune function by increasing numbers of helper‚ activated‚ and total T cells. It changes gut microflora to help fight against allergic inflammation.
- B. bifidum supports infants with allergies by suppressing total and allergen-specific IgE secretion.
- B. longum helps regulate the immune response antigens in the respiratory system and inhibits neutrophil elastase‚ which is crucial to maintaining normal innate immune functions.
